Tips to Help You Stay Physically and Mentally Healthy During Covid-19 Self-Quarantine

Ever since the coronavirus outbreak began late last year, there has been over 700,000 cases. This figure seems to be rising with each wake, and as a result, the healthy are being urged to self-quarantine. On the one hand, self-quarantine is an excellent strategy. It helps curb the spread of the novel virus.

On the other hand, being confined indoors for an indefinite amount of time not only causes boredom but also increases the likelihood of individuals turning to stress-eating and alcohol for comfort. If you’re currently in self-quarantine because of Covid-19, here are tips to help you stay healthy, fit, and sane.

  1. Stock Up on Healthy Foods

Given that there’s a high demand for frozen foods and veggies right now, most people are now stocking up on canned foods. While this is a great way to ensure they have food supplies, canned foods often have minimal nutritional value, and right now, more than ever, our bodies need nutritionally-dense foods to boost the immune system. So how do you eat healthily?

We recommend you support a local farmer by buying fresh veggies such as cabbages, winter squash, and dry foods such as lentils. They have a longer shelf-life and boast great-nutritional value which is what your body needs during this outbreak. Note, eating healthy not only help you remain physically fit, but also beneficial if you have neuropathic pain.

  1. Try to Stay Fit

Wondering how you’re going to maintain that perfect waistline when all the gyms and fitness centers around you are closed? Well, there are many exercises that you can do from the comfort of your home and thanks to the internet, you can look them up, and try the ones you feel fit your previous fitness routine. Note, you don’t have to go as hard as you do when in the gym. WHO recommends having at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercises per week during this period.

  1. Go Outside

Part of staying healthy during self-quarantine is ensuring your mental health is also in good shape. Remember, while staying indoors is the most effective way to protect yourself from COVID-19; being indoors for a long time can put your mental health on edge. So, try and connect with nature a little. For instance, if you have a garden or backyard, make sure you spend some time here.

Also, although it’s recommended that everyone self-quarantines, it’s safe to go for a run or take a short walk as long as you ensure you maintain the six-foot distance between you and those you come across. If you’re feeling paranoid, consider taking that run during dawn or dusk as most people will be indoors. Besides, running or walking is a great way to stay fit.

  1. Stay in Contact with Friends and Family

As a way to maintain your sanity and some sense of normalcy, make sure you stay in touch with your friends and family as regularly as possible. You can do this without even having to leave your house through video and phone calls.

Doing all the above is great for your mind and body. It is even more crucial if you live with some type of chronic pain.
